Jason and I were lucky and got to the Sounders game on the 11th. We ended up losing, but we still had a great time.
An hour and a half before the match, the Sound Wave meets up at the North lot of Qwest Field, and then they walk to Occidental Park, just a couple blocks further North. There they perform a few of their pieces for all of the fans that have met there and then they lead a march back to the field where they perform a few more pieces before the match starts. All in all, it's about an hour's worth of playing.
We were really lucky with the weather. It was supposed to rain, but it ended up staying nice! Still jacket weather, but that's better than standing in the rain for the three hour game. And we stood the whole time! My feet were tired by the end of it all! Stand for the park performance, Field performance, and the match!
It's hard to see, but before every game, they throw confetti out of somewhere. I didn't see it happen, it was just suddenly there. :P
We had great seats. There were just two sections seperating us from the band, and we were in the second row up from the field, on the end. It was awesome. And, we had a guy that was standing behind us who knew the ins and outs of soccer and was explaining bits of what was happening, so it was great for Jason and I who didn't know why some things were happening.
This is Kasey Keller, our goalie, when he was red carded and therefore ejected from the game. He was pissed! As were the rest of us! According to the guy behind us, Keller was our lastline of defense when the ball came close to our goal and he moved outside of his box and blocked the ball with his chest. However, it hit his arm and the ref said that he purposefully used his arm to block which is illegal. So, he gave him a red card. You can't see the expression on his face with this small picture, but he is not happy.
This picture must have been taken during half time, because I can see we're sitting here. The hardcore fans stand for the duration of the game, and our whole section was standing.
Here's Dad during the break! I caught him while he was eating. This is a pretty cool gig. Not only does he get paid to do what he loves most (play his trumpet), but he also gets all of the gear free because those are their "uniforms," free parking, and a $10 credit for food so they can eat at the games.
This is our star, Freddie Ljungberg. He was the first player we signed on.
We had a great time and he did a great job!
