Meet Snoopy!

After Bunny died, Cadbury became really depressed. I spent a lot of one on one time with her, and it helped, but she was very lonely. She did become more sociable though as I spent more time with her, and she enjoyed getting her pets and rubs, generally because that meant that a treat would follow. But she didn't get enough of the interaction that she deserved since I was at work and Jason was working during the day, and many evenings we weren't home. So we started looking at adopting another rabbit and found Snoopy through the shelter that we buy all of our supplies from.

Two weeks ago, we brought Cadbury to their shelter in Redmond to start the bonding process with Snoopy. Normally this is an approximate 3-7 day procedure. If it takes more time than that, it's generally not going to work. Cadbury and Snoopy proved them wrong though, in that it took almost two full weeks for them to work the kinks out of their relationship, but they did it.

The day that Cadbury met Snoopy, she attacked him. Not a great sign for their first meeting, but according to our rabbit lady, Sandi, this happens about 60% of the time. This continued for the next couple of days. When I called for an update on the Wednesday after we dropped her off, Sandi described her as "a little twerp." She said that Cadbury would act all coy and demure and Snoopy would hop over to check her out, and then she would attack. This changed Friday night when Caddy started doing some flirty, hoppy dances in front of Snoopy. But when she would go over to check him out, the tables had been turned and Snoopy attacked her. You can't really blame him, he probably thought that he better attack before she did.

We had hit the end of the 3-7 days, but Sandi had high hopes for them, and since Snoopy was interested in the beginning, we only had to bring him back around. I got my next update on the following Wednesday, and things were better but not quite there. They could comfortably lie next to each other about 18" apart, but Snoopy would try to assert his dominance over Cadbury, and as Sandi put it, this just pissed her off. So Sandi took them on a couple car rides from the Redmond shelter to the Seattle store, and this seemed to solve all the problems they'd been having. The stressful car ride helped them to seek comfort in each other.

They'll be living in the kitchen for the next few days as the get used to living in the apartment together, and then we'll move them back into the Rabbit Room. But we've got to give them some time first before putting them in Caddy's space.

They spent about two hours just sitting in the open carrier after we got home before I kicked them out of it. Caddy had come out and hopped around before darting back inside, but Snoopy hadn't ventured farther than halfway out the doorway. So I kicked Caddy out and picked up Snoopy and put him in the litterpan. While he wasn't too enthused with me picking him up, he was happy to have found the hay and he settled down pretty quickly into the litterpan.

They spent the night together just fine, we assume, since there was no fur on the ground to suggest fighting, and Cadbury has spent quite a large portion of the day just grooming Snoopy's head. It's really cute.

The two of them are frickin' adorable, and we're so glad to have Cadbury back home and Snoopy with her.

That is darling. Snoopy is the perfect name. I bet Jason's mom loves her too.
