The had their last (but not the last) check-up last Friday. And we finally got a frequent client discount. Their check-ups were $32 each and they gave us a discount of -$16 each. Yay! I hope this continues. Cadbury's ear looks great and she's been taken off of the oral antibiotics and the ear flushing, but we're still doing the ear drops (Gentamicin) twice daily. If we remember. :P Last weekend it was once a day because we kept forgetting to do them in the morning, but all this week we've been doing well.
As for Snoopy, nothing changed during the two weeks he was on the Baytril. He was still sneezing quite a bit and his nose was still a little runny. I had her check his lungs while we were there, and she said they sounded fine which was a huge relief to me. I was so worried he had gunk in his lungs and maybe this was the begining of a pneumonia thing. But since the Baytil didn't do anything, we've taken him off of it. The vet isn't keen on messing with different antibiotics and thinks this might just be an allergy thing. They'd been given access to the whole apartment just when this thing began, and it could be caused by lots of reasons. Maybe it's because they love to crawl under the couch where the carpet hasn't been vaccumed for over a year. Maybe it's because this cut of hay was different. Maybe it's the change in weather. We don't really know. But since we took him off of Baytril, it seems like he's gotten worse. His sneezes sound more wet now and he has a bit of a nose whistle when he breathes. He still seems himself, though, hopping around, jumping on the couch to see us, or sitting on the loveseat by himself, and being very happy for food. But it can't be comfortable to have your nose all clogged up like that. I know, because it happens to me every so often, and I'm miserable after an allergy attack for the next 5 days or so.
In a way, though, I kind of hope that he gets worse so that there's enough of the gunk to get a sample of. That way we could know what kind of antibiotic would work, if it isn't an allergy. In the meantime, we're going to have to do some heavy cleaning, and we're going to try lightly spraying down their hay to help with any possible hay dust.
They'll be back at the vet next Friday.
[And Snoopy is not being miserable in the picture above, he's asleep in a comfy flop. :)]
14:15 ETA: Jason just called to say that Snoopy's nose is all yellow and crusty. He sounded kind of worried, but not worried enough to call the vet. He just wants me to take a look at it when I get home. Poor Snoopy!
