Final Rabbit Check-Up?

Apparently not. :(

Cadbury, Snoopy, and I went in yesterday for what we hoped was Cadbury's final check-up, but things weren't that good. When we went in for their physicals, we found out that Caddy had an ear infection, so she was put on antibiotics for two weeks, and that was a whole lot of fun. We went in for a check-up at the end of those two weeks and the infection was gone and everybody was happy, but the vet wanted to see Caddy in a month to make sure that the infection hadn't come back. Well, yesterday was our month later check-up and the infection is back. :( Or at least the swelling is. So, she's being put on more antibiotics, but no ear drops this time. I made my confession that we intially kept forgetting to give her the ear drops after that check-up because we'd be coming home late or something, and she was all better so we figured it would be okay to wait until the next day, and that continued until we just forgot all together, so she hadn't had any ear drops since being declared that she was all better. The vet said that it was okay, because she didn't think the ear drops were really doing anything any way because the canal is so tight. So, she wants to put her on antibiotics for 6-8 weeks, and see us in a month. If the infection is not gone in a month, she said that she's really going to want to do the surgery to open up her ear canal and flush out the infection. D: Poor Caddykins! (That's what "Daddy" calls her.) But I have hope that the infection will be gone in a month. If a large infection can disapear in two weeks, a little one can be destroyed in a month, and kept away with the additional 2-4 weeks.

We're going to try something different with the meds this time since flipping her onto her back to stick a syringe in her mouth was so hard and stressful for everybody. She (the vet) said that some people mix it in with some strawberry Ensure, and their rabbits just love it. Another person would inject it into some dried fruit. We're going to try mixing it into some yogurt because she used to really love that stuff. I say used to because we haven't given her any yogurt in some time. Hopefully she'll come running for her "treat" each day. :) The vet also made it apple flavored this time, instead of banana, so we'll see if she likes it any better. I have hope in the yogurt.
